INSTRUCTIONS & COMMENTARY
Go ahead, between the two black tires ......
This road is occasionally rough, but if you pass the first 100
yards you’ve seen the worst of it. It’s 3½ miles long and brings
you to a T junction facing the Swiss cemetery.
You're on 448 Trl and you'll be turning left on to 470 Trl when
you've had a look around the cemetery.
A good number of the Sandoz family are buried here, including Mary
Sandoz' mother, Mary Fehr. Also Emile, Old Jules' brother, who was
shot dead on his own land by a cattleman's hired gun.
Leaving the cemetery behind you, follow 470 Trl north; a straight clear road.
You could go east at the cemetery crossroads, but we feel that the 470 Trl route described is a safer route; the road is wider and well-made.
Swing right at the junction with 467 Trl; carry on with 470 Trl round to the
right. By now the way is broad and clear.
Cross Pine Creek.
Meet Highway 250 - turn right; head south towards Ellsworth.
An attractive place to picnic or stroll around; a good point at which to camp
for the night.
Wildlife is plentiful - don't try to pick up a Snapping Turtle or you'll lose a finger!
Use the links at the foot of the page to navigate through the
trail guide .... NEXT - to the Orchard Place.
